Canyon Inn

Jackie Pool, originally uploaded by quimerizar.

Jackie and I decided to go out with some of my old friends from Utah. We ended up going out to this place called the Canyon Inn. After hitting Park City earlier in the day and having the whole “full car” situation, we decided we needed to go out for some drinks.
We walked in the door and had literally been in the bar for about 30 seconds – still showing our IDs to the guy at the front desk, when all of the sudden this man in red pants, a red jacket, red shirt, and white hat with red sash walks over and wants to buy us a drink. I looked at Jackie, and she gave me the “ok”. So, we went and had a drink with this strange guy at the bar.
We sit down, and a few minutes later he introduces Jackie to the guy next to him…”This is so and so, he is the only brother within 20 miles of here”. Jackie and I started cracking up because the guy was definitely NOT her type and very drunk.
Later, we were both asked to go play pool with some of our friend’s friends. Jackie played for the first time ever and the guys helped teach her. We also got out on the dance floor and tore it up a little. All in all, it was a good night. I was happy to have Jackie here with me and to be able to show her around Utah. She was a good sport with everything!

Fullest Car

Full Car, originally uploaded by quimerizar.

Jackie and I went to Park City today and met up with some of my friends there. As you all may very well know, I seem to end up having little adventures. They follow me around.

So, we met up with my friends Gregg and Cindy, their daughter, and her boyfriend, and Greggs brother. We had a nice lunch at a cowboy-ish place, a few margaritas, yee haw.

Jackie and I stuck around to do a little shopping afterwards. Then we headed back to Salt Lake. Just as we were making the turn onto I-215 back in Salt Lake, I received a phone call from Cindy and she told me that their truck broke down back in Park City and that they were going to have to have it towed. I asked if they needed us to come back and pick them up... they did. So, we turned around and went back to PC.

The rental car I got for my trip is a Buick Lacrosse (I know, I should be 90 years old or something. We get back to PC and follow them to the dealership. (Meanwhile, I have to pee because of the margaritas- another story...will blog at the end of this). We get to the dealership and then the big dilemma is how we are going to fit 7 people in this car. We put the boyfriend in the trunk! Hey, he volunteered. It was quite an uncomfortable 45 minute drive back to Salt Lake. The best part was that we dropped Jackie off at her hotel first. We pull up to the front doors of the Monaco - a pretty nice hotel. The valet guys are standing out there, already looking at us like we are crazy because the car is so full. Then..........I pop the trunk. Friggin Hilarious.

**Side note on the pee story. So, I had to pee pretty badly and there was no where to go. Gregg had to fill out some forms at the drop box for his truck and we were there for several minutes and I couldn't hold it anymore. So, I look around and see that we are kind of in the middle of nowhere, and there is a ravine on the other side of the dealership. I announce that I have to pee and can't hold it, then walk over to the ravine. Smart me, I decide that I will hide behind the last truck that is parked before the ravine. I walk around it and squat, not realizing that I am uphill from them and the pickup truck I am hiding behind is jacked up pretty high. All of my friends could see my bare white ass peeing behind the truck. By the time I realized they could all see me, I was mid-stream and couldn't stop. Jackie ran to grab her camera but I was able to pee faster than she could get it turned on to take the picture. Phew. All I have to say is that I am glad I was wearing nice underwear that day.

Back to the Mountains

Jackie, Chillin in the Airport, originally uploaded by quimerizar.

So, I embarked with my pal Jackie on a trip back to Salt Lake City. I am headed there for work because I am training a new team we have there. I will probably be gone for 6 weeks.

Jackie and I had a pretty rough start to the trip. I brought my two dogs with me and she was helping me get one on the plane (have to have one passenger per animal). We were supposed to leave on Sunday night. Friday, when I called to make the reservations, the lady couldnt add the dogs to the flight. I would have to call the airline directly to do that. There happened to be a big snowstorm that day and I tried several times to get them on the phone on Friday and Saturday with no luck. I was starting to worry by Sunday morning, thinking I might not be able to get my dogs on the flight - they only allow 2 dogs on each flight in the cabin. I called reservations and explained, but they could do nothing for me. Their only suggestion was for me to actually go to the airport and stand in line.

So, I rented a car, went to the airport and stood in a REALLY long line. The lines were so long because all of the flights from the past two days had been cancelled and passengers were stranded and trying to get on different flights. When I finally got to the desk, they said they didn't have access to add animals in the line I had stood in. I refused to leave.

Finally, I got the dogs on the flight.. As the man was handing me my confirmation, he said... "Oh, by the way, your 7pm flight has been delayed until 1am." Great.

I called Jackie to tell her, she cancelled her car service and went to the Mall. I went home and packed, then was going to take a nap. I decided to set up my car service so that I could be prepared. I went online to double check the time for the flight.... and it said ON TIME!!!! Here it was 4pm already... for a 7pm flight. I called Jackie. She ran home from the mall and got a car (she was in Long Island but flight was out of Newark). I run out the door, return the rental car, make it back just in time to get my car service pick up. I walk up to the car and the guy LOCKS the door. He won't let me in and says he doesn't take dogs in his car. I try explaining to him that my dogs are in bags and they won't hurt him. He says no, and I yell explicatives (are you f*&cking kidding me????) because I am really pissed.

I call my friend Dan. He comes and picks me up and takes me to the airport. I leave my purse in his car. He comes back and gives me the purse and Jackie and I get in the line that the agent directs us to...... which is the WRONG line. We get to the front of the line and they inform us that they cant check our bags there, that we are in the wrong line. They direct us inside to an even longer line. There is no way in hell we were making that plane. We can hear them paging our names over the intercomm.... Last Call for Jackie and Rebecca, flight to Salt Lake City.

We didn't make the flight. Jackie, Me, lots of luggage, and two dogs headed home to my place. Had to explain to the boss the next morning how I missed the flight for my business trip. It was super fun.

The next day was smoother. We got on a plane. Yay.

Damn, this was a long post.

The smallest airplane sandwich ever

On my way back from Florida, Continental Airlines served me a "meal" since I was flying during dinner hours. I know the guy next to me had to think I was completely insane, breaking out my camera to take a picture. The Bacardi (shown in picture) helped me get my courage up to make an idiot out of myself. We all know how large the airplane bottles of liquor are... but check out the sandwich!!! Thank god I didn't count on that meal to tide me over and had stopped to get something before getting on the plane.

Empire State Building

Empire State Building, originally uploaded by quimerizar.

Ahhh, March. They say it comes in like a lion and out like a lamb... but generally I always remember it being pretty crappy weather on and off the entire month. First it will snow. Two days later it will be 70 degrees. 4 days later it will snow again. All of this, as I recall, seems to cause headaches, sniffles, and irritability. And, its the WHOLE damn month. None of this Lion and Lamb crap.

This is the time where we are completely sick of winter and ready for warmer weather and mother nature just likes to dangle it in our face and laugh like some twisted game. But, I guess I do have to be thankful for those days when it does hit 70. It's like you win the lottery and then find out that you have to pay back most of it in taxes.

So, I guess I should speak about the picture. It is no secret that I am tall and like to wear heels anyway. Sometimes I think it is just that I like to be slightly intimidating. It's kind of fun. Well, my friends from the 'hood wanted to go to Brooklyn for dinner because they had friends in town from Colombia. We went to this great place called SEA (Thai) in Williamsburg.

The place was PACKED and there were 13 of us. We arrived around 9pm. After several of the mojitos (some special kind with a funky name I can't remember- bar specialty) we finally got seated around midnight. I think this is the latest sit down dinner I have ever eaten at a nicer restaurant. This is also the reason why I look so damn tired in the picture. I was sitting next to the man in the picture and he was commenting on how I was "amazona". He wanted to get his picture taken with me to show how tall I was and he told me that I was "like the Empire State Building". He toured it earlier, so he must have had that on his mind. I wish he would have toured the Statue of Liberty instead... it would have been cool to have been "like the Statue of Liberty". I would have even held my hand up with a glass or something for the picture.

On to more important things... I had a very strange dream that night. I dreamt that I was on the train platform in the subway. It was one of those platforms that is curved and the train has to kind of serpentine in to the station. I was at the middle of the curve and the train was coming in going very slowly. I was standing on the edge of the platform and held my hand out to graze the train as it was going by. When I did this, one of the conductor windows was open and my hand got stuck. The person inside the train closed the window really hard on my hand and chopped off all my fingers. My fingers fell off into the inside of the train. When the train stopped, I had to run into the car and get my fingers so that I could take them with me to the hospital to have them sewn back on. If anyone knows what this means in dream interpretation, I would be interested to know. (PS, that is not the strangest dream I have ever had!) Normally I don't remember my dreams but I guess this one was just one of those strange dreams I actually did remember.

Brunchy Munchy

dig them taters, originally uploaded by dangros.

Sooo..... as usual, on the weekend we went to brunch as a group of thirty something pseudo wanna be Melrose Place people. This time, Dan (aka Portside Prowler) hosted brunch at his place. Sofie assumed the domesticated role of chopping veggies and cooking the taters. She really like to chop. Watch out Ed... woman with knife, likes to chop. Don't piss her off. One of our friends, who will remain nameless, proceeded to pass out on the couch prior to breakfast even being ready. These brunches have become the most exciting part of my weekends. It's very sad that I live this exciting life here in New York but my job sucks so much right now that I am too tired to really do much else.

Old Friends, Good Times

Eric, Me, Amber, Cindy, originally uploaded by quimerizar.

Saw my old highschool friend down in Florida. He was kind enough to crash at his place on my trip down there. My flight home got delayed due to snow and I had to overstay... He was very nice about it.

You know, there is really no substitute for catching up with old friends. I hadn't seen him in many many years and had only kept in touch on the phone or email. I think it isneat so cool to get to step back into someone's life and see a snapshot of who they are now and where there life has taken them.

Even though we had kept in touch on and off over the years, I got to learn more about him. It always suprises me what roads people go down. This particular friend of mine, we spent one evening in Florida having dinner together while his son went to football practice. During that time, I got to hear first hand about his experiences in the war, getting wounded, waking up in Germany, and coming home. It was interesting and eye opening (to really hear from someone who had experienced the war).

He reads my blog, so I know he will see this and I just want to give a shout out to him and say thanks for letting me stay.. And also would like to say thanks for serving our country. It doesn't matter if I agree with the war or not, it only matters that I want our guys to come home safe.
