Happy Friggin New Years

So, it was New Years Eve. Tim Lane was in town from Los Angeles along with his friend Mikael (not sure if I am spelling that right). We ate dinner at an Afghani restaurant and then headed to Times Square like a bunch of tourists to watch the ball drop. It was very cool to be there. Especially because it was January and fairly warm in New York for the event. Lotsa champagne. Lotsa fun.

Work Work Work

12/2/2004

My boss moved to a different department. It is my first year in the IRA group and I am on my own. First year of tax reporting. I am completely stressing out because I don't know if I know how to do this job by myself. I hope it goes OK!!! Here is a picture of what my desk looks like at work. I have been working ridiculous hours. Already. And tax season doesn't really start until the end of December. Go figure.

Thanksgiving

11/25/04

My Dad and his buddy from Salt Lake (Roy) came to visit NYC for Thanksgiving. Got to be a true tourist in my own town by going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Too many damn people!!! That will be my first and last time going probably. But it was fun to see. I have attached picture of Big Bird's Butt.

We went on a dinner cruise in the harbor for our Thanksgiving feast since I have no food in my fridge as usual (minus the mustard and teriaki sauce). PEOPLE< if you come to visit me, please keep this in mind...Fridge=Empty

Went to all the NY Spots as tour guide... The favorite stop seems to be the restaurant from Seinfeld and Suzanne Vega's song, Tom's Diner. We ate there of course.

Thing I am most thankful for: Family & Friends

University of North Carolina Baby

11/15/04

My best friend in New York City hosted an event for our university alumni group. It was a very nice evening. It was cool to have new people come to this event and meet them - and we all had something in common. I hope no one cares that I am posting a pic of them! If so, sorry.

Christine's boyfriend Carl went all out for the party - cutting up an apple into the shape of a swan. WOW!

Cloisters

11/7/04

My friend Liz came to visit from Salt Lake City and I showed her around town a bit today. We decided to go up to the Cloisters. For those of you who do not know, the Cloisters are a part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and located in Northern Manhattan. It is art and archeticture from mideval Europe - mostly religious pieces. Very neat stuff from the 1100s to the 1400s.

Halloween.. .Central Park Style

10/31/04

I think I must be crazy. Today I randomly decided to get up at 5am on the weekend to take pictures in Central Park. It was worth it though. The leaves were absoultely beautiful. AND< there were no people to poke their heads into my pictures. LOVELY!! I LOVE NEW YORK!!

Oh, and I love the smell of autumn leaves. So, this day was pretty good. AND, on top of that I went to dunkin donuts for breakfast on the way and ate donuts. yummmmmmmmm.. donuts...... Do I sound like Homer Simpson?

Tears for Fears

9/26/04

My Friend Julia came from Salt Lake to New York to visit. On a whim we decided to check out the Today show.. AND, Tears for Fears was doing a free concert in Rockefeller Plaza. They only did one or two songs but it was still pretty fun. No one was there (And I dont blame them since it was 7am on a Saturday!) so it was like we had front row seats.

Kitty Kitty Kitty

9/17/04

My friend Sue has three kittys. They are not doing well - pretty old cats. I think they are 20 years old. She is going to have to put them to sleep. It is so very sad. I offered to do a mini kitty photo shoot for her so that she has some nice pictures of them to remember.

It was a hard photo shoot for me to do. I felt so bad. Here they are.. In Memoriam. Stanley, Charlie, and Seymour

Susan Komen Breast Cancer Walk

9/12/04

We are walking.... for a cure. Walked down 5th Avenue in a sea of thousands and thousands of people. I walked in honor of my mom. Christine walked in honor of her cousin, and Carl walked in honor of some of his family members. Filiz (my boss) and Sean were there too. It is pretty cool to see that many people get together and shut down the streets to raise money for something. Inspirational.

Sept 11 2004

9/11/04

It has been two years since Sept 11. Since I live in NYC I thought it would be good to go to the memorial at ground zero. It was very sad to hear all the names called and see the people their to remember. In another light, it was positive. Lots of patriotic people showing their respect, even if they didn't lose anyone close to them. It was a really emotional day and very touching.

After the memorial, I went to the Empire State Building. Had been there before, but just got a wild hair and wanted to go.

Bush and the Republicans

8/28/04

As a Democrat I felt the need to show my opinion during the Republican Convention here in NYC. Nothing personal - I have friends who are Republicans. I just don't agree. That is the beauty of this country - we are free to disagree!

Consequently, on a totally different topic, I had to sell most of my furniture. My wonderful New York apartment on the Upper East Side is 400 Square feet and I packed way too much when I moved. I will miss my big comfy chair.

Lastly, on yet another topic (CAN ANYONE SAY adult A.D.D.?) Here is a pic of the water taxi I take to work. Does anyone really care anyway?

Smashin Sangria

8/23/04

My darling sweet friend Christine decided to cook me dinner. I love her!! I made the Sangria. It is my secret recipe. Not so secret anymore since I am going to post it for future imbibing. So, she made dinner. I made Sangria. It was quite the combination. Then, buzzed we played scrabble because I am such a nerd and I brought the game with me. Then we decided to take pictures with her coasters and re-live our sorority days. I used to have this pair of sweats back in college that had the letters on the butt. We reenacted the pants using tape and my jeans. Wow my ass looks big. Must be the camera angle. HAS to be the camera angle. Just keep tellin yourself that and you will be fine.

Smashin Sangria Recipe
750 ml bottle red wine
1 shot cointreau
1 shot brandy
2 shots vodka
24 ounces orange juice
1 cup club soda
3 tablespoons sugar (fast dissolving)
1 sliced apple and orange

Brooklyn Trekkin

8/14/04

Everyone who visits New York should walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Christine and I strolled across. The guy in front of us had a funny butt so I took a picture of it. Nothing is sacred here. Especially when I have a camera.

And, as an added bonus we got to see lots of people getting wedding pictures taken at the pier in Brooklyn. Went into the Riverboat Restaurant and had a midday cocktail (have I mentioned how I love those?). Overlooking the city skyline.. Christine told me that this is a great place to get engaged. She loves her man. Maybe he will propose to her someday here. Or on the Brooklyn Bridge. That would be cool. We will see!!

Took the Ferry back to NYC - the Water Taxi to be exact. This is the same boat I take to work!

Park & Ride

7/25/2004

Central Park has this beautiful pond with Weeping Willows. Not sure why I love Weeping Willows but I do. We used to have one in our yard in North Carolina at the house I grew up in. Maybe that's why...

Was experimenting with my camera and shutter speed. Took the dogs out for a walk to the end of the street and went on the footbridge over the FDR. It is amazing how I can see Weeping Willows at Central Park and then experience the Urbanity all on the same day.

Bostonification

7/17/04

Up to Boston to get Sean an apartment for school. Never been to Boston before this. But, I have to say I was pretty suprised. Coming up on the Boston skyline I was very suprised. I was expecting a big city, but compared to New York, no city is big. I saw the skyline and was thinking, "That's it?". So much for Boston. Did all the tourist crap - Some Freedom walk and stuff. It was fun.

Madame Butterfly

6/16/04

My adventures in New York today have included seeing some Opera. Central Park has these great free concerts for different things all the time - Rock Stars, Plays, Operas, Symphonies. The great lawn is sprawled with tons and tons of people on blankets. Lots of picnic baskets, wine, dogs, and food. Almost like a giant barbeque but definitely New York style. It reminded me of the much smaller version of the concerts at Red Butte Garden that Corie (my beautiful, sweet, kind friend from L.A.) and I used to go to in Salt Lake City.

Christine who is my dearest friend in New York and I went and bought those nylon folding chairs, got a bottle of wine and a picnic basket with some food and parked ourselves on the Great Lawn. The wine was good, the weather was mild and we just had a damn good time.

Sidewalk Cafes

5/31/04

One of my absolute favorite things about New York are the Sidewalk Cafe's. Memorial Day is the perfect day to take advantage of them. Today, my good friend Christine and I strolled around Brooklyn with our friend Vinnie. He has a motorcycle and took us on rides through Brooklyn. After that, we decided to have afternoon cocktails. Is there ANYTHING better than having a cocktail in the middle of the afternoon, on a sidewalk in Brooklyn, watching the people go by, on a Monday???? It was the perfect lazy day. Perfect.

Attached is Vinnie at the sidewalk cafe.

Welcome To NYC

4/28/04

It was a Wednesday.....

I quit my job at on Monday in Salt Lake City and took a big leap of faith and flew in for an interview at a big investment banking firm in New York. I had no job, no money and a friend let me stay with her. There was no way I wasn't getting this job. I could just feel it.

So, I hopped on a plane, skidded the landscape, and ended up 2000 miles away from Utah in New York City. Arrived at 5am, interviewed at 10am, had the job by 4pm. Damn!

My first picture from New York - taken from "The Ocean" apartments in Battery Park. View of Jersey City.
